ABOUT THE POSITION The Auditor Controller's Office has a paid internship opportunity for a Professional Student Intern to join their Accounts Payable Unit. The intern will gain experience performing paraprofessional accounting work in the Accounts Payable Unit.
The in-person student internship position is based in Riverside and offers a flexible work week consisting of approximately 20-40 hours per week with flexibility granted around academic obligations. The selected candidate can anticipate the internship to span up to one year in length.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES Under supervision, assists and participates in the work performed by employees of a specific profession; through participation, receives supervised work experience in a specific professional vocation; and performs other related duties as required.
The candidate will report to the Principal Accountant in the Accounts Payable Unit and be assigned to reviewing and approving vouchers, including regular vouchers, employee reimbursements, procurement card, and revolving fund vouchers. The candidate will also assist the Accounts Payable Team with other tasks such as warrant distribution, wire transfers, running pay cycles, processing stops/cancels of County warrants, reaching out to departments regarding any voucher discrepancies and outstanding vouchers.
The intern will learn tasks such as, but not limited to, reviewing and approving County-wide PO/contract vendor invoices, employee reimbursements, procurement cards. Additionally, the intern will assist with month-end and year-end closing job assignments. The candidate will gain knowledge of how to process journal entries, assist with reconciliations as necessary, process credit card payments, work on the E-Payables expiring logs, and perform other tasks and job duties for the E-Payables program as needed. Moreover, the intern will practice identifying and presenting item issues to the manager/supervisor for review/resolution and assist departments and co-workers with troubleshooting voucher issues, as well as providing guidance regarding County policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average :
2.5 GPA required. Proof of most current unofficial/official transcript with cumulative GPA must be provided at time of application.
Education: Applicants must be currently enrolled/attending school at an accredited college or university in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program, during the entire duration of the internship. Recent college graduates are eligible to intern for up to one year (twelve months) from their graduation date. Graduation date is not to exceed a twelve-month maximum during the duration of the internship.
Areas of Study : Public or Business Administration with a concentration in accounting or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar.
Minimum Qualifications: - The student intern must be a student or recent graduate in the Field of Accounting & Finance or a closely related filed with a concentration of accounting.
Preferred Qualifications: - The student intern must be self-motivated and have strong organizational skills.
- The ideal candidate will have the ability to multi-task between assignments with light and competing deadlines.
- The student intern must be capable to organize, plan, and assist with other Account Payable projects or tasks as needed.
