METROPOLITAN STATE HOSPITAL- Located in Norwalk, Los Angeles County

This advertisement will run until filled with the following cutoff date for review of applications: 1st and 15th of each month.

Under the general direction of the Program Director of Enhancement Services and immediate supervision provided by the Patient Services Program Assistants, this classification’s major functions are as follows; provides spiritual guidance in religious and ethical areas to State hospital patients; conducts Catholic religious services and other rituals of the Catholic faith that are both within the scope of the Chaplain’s duties and aligned with the policies and procedures that govern the Department of State Hospitals; provides pastoral care to patients including Hope & Spirituality groups and other forms of Catholic education; works collaboratively with all hospital Chaplains; provides interfaith or ecumenical religious services with fellow Chaplains as needed; works in conjunction with interdisciplinary teams to address spiritual needs of patients; provides comfort to all patients regardless of faith; and performs other related work. Chaplains must be flexible and compassionate with a supportive attitude toward all throughout the hospital environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Either I: Ordained priest, duly accredited by and in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church, and approved by the Bishop of the diocese in which the institution is located.

Or II:
A lay person or ordained deacon, with demonstrated pastoral competence, duly accredited for pastoral ministry by a nationally recognized Roman Catholic chaplain certification institution; and approved by the Bishop of the diocese in which the institution is located.
