Job Description

The Department of Health (DOH), Bureau of Community Health Systems is seeking a passionate and experienced nurse to provide education and clinical services. This employee will collaborate with community partners to ensure that DOH programs are available and relevant. In this position, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating public health services and initiatives, as well as providing direct public health services and community liaison activities. Your work as a Community Health Nurse will help community members learn to improve their own health. You will utilize community-level data, public health protocols, and DOH nursing guidelines to target high-priority threats to public health. Data analysis skills are critical to this position, as you will be required to monitor information systems and analyze county-level assessments to identify public health needs. You will also conduct surveillance and case investigations to prevent and control the spread of disease.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Work infrequently requires statewide travel and irregular or flexible work hours, including overnights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Salary:   In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.  
  • All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    1. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
