Job Description

The Entertainment Sound Technician (SOUN) is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of all sound systems in the various entertainment venues for a variety of produced entertainment, events, and activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThis is a shipboard position. All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with Royal Caribbean International’s The Royal Way, SQM standards, USPH guidelines, environmental, and safety policies.

In accordance with Royal Caribbean International’s philosophy of Anchored in Excellence, each employee conducts oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times. This consists of physical and verbal interactions with guests or fellow shipboard employees and/or in the presence of guest contact and crew areas.

Each shipboard employee may be required to perform all functions in various service venues and throughout the ship.

1. Reporting Structure

The SOUN reports directly to the Stage Production Manager(s).; The SOUN reports to the Head Sound and Light Technician for their daily and weekly schedule.;

2. General Duties

Responsible for the operation, programming, maintenance, repair, inspection and troubleshooting of all live entertainment audio systems within the various entertainment venues.; Proactively supports the live-entertainment program, including groups, charters, promotional, incentive, presentations, and other related activities where sound support is required.; Working with the venue-respective Stage and Production Manager, provides audio support for Headliners, Guest Entertainers and groups.; Maintains the Technical & Artistic Integrity of all produced entertainment as it was originally designed and installed. Prior to making any changes to the original design, must communicate with Royal Caribbean Productions Artistic Integrity and Technical Management to obtain approval.; Can expect to be on a duty rotation to carry out duties as assigned by the Stage Production Manager(s) and/or Head Sound and Light Technician.;

3. Maintenance, Repairs, and Inventory

Responsible for:The operational reliability, maintenance, and proper documentation of the various entertainment venues’ audio systems; Completing AMOS Work Orders issued by the Stage Production Manager(s) and Head Sound and Light Technician.;

; Works closely with the Head Sound and Light Technician to ensure that all working spaces remain clean, organized, and inventoried maintaining a state of 100% readiness. In the event of malfunctioning equipment, works with entertainment technical and/or shipboard management teams to remedy the problem.; Coordinates with Stage Production Manager(s) and Head Sound and Light Technician to ensure that accurate and up to date records of sound related equipment are kept. This includes inventory, maintenance, guarantee claimed items and items landed for repair and expected to return to the ship.; 4. Coaching and Development

Provides insight, training, and guidance to all interested promotional candidates to strengthen their current performance and possible advancement to SOUN.;

5. Administrative Function

Attends applicable related shipboard meetings and trainings as required.; As entertainment sound related equipment is delivered or landed to the ship, ensure that it is tested, inventoried and either placed into service or placed in spares storage.; Working with the Technical Director Entertainment, Stage Production Manager(s) and Head Sound and Light Technician, ensures that regular data backups are made of all show files and that these are stored securely according to policy.; In order to maintain continuity of business, the Sound Technician shall ensure that accurate and up to date notes are kept and treated as a living document. This document must include written, photo, and video documentation to allow a smooth changeover with the incoming Sound Technician reliever. Additionally, will be expected to cross-train with other sound technicians onboard their respective ship.;

Shipboard employees will be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management.QUALIFICATIONSCompletion of high school or basic education equivalency required.; Bachelors or Associates in Technical Theater, Sound, Lights, A/V preferred, or demonstrated equivalent experience.; Background in stage, technical theatre and production, including proper microphone placement technique, stage monitor engineering, mixing live scripted and timecode-based shows required.; Minimum 2 years’ experience with live theatrical and musical performances, including vocalists, orchestras/musicians, and automated playback systems.; Proficient in programming and operation of sound consoles, both analog and digital.; Knowledge and understanding of network-based audio distribution and system signal flow.;

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLSMust be able to work well with others. This is essential, as sound technician will be working with a team of technicians and a cast of performing artists on a regular basis.; Well versed in various software applications applicable to entertainment technology, i.e., Qlab, QSYS, and Pro Logic.; Maintaining knowledge of technological and software advancements in the live sound and entertainment industry.;

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially under all circumstances.; Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures (equipment manuals, operations manuals, memos, technical procedures and necessary rules and regulations). This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms, and to effectively present information to subordinates and colleagues.;

PHYSICAL, VISION AND HEARING REQUIREMENTS

Physical: Must pass the company required medical evaluation. Additionally, must be able and comfortable to work at height (over 6 feet off the floor) for extended periods of time.; Vision: Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.; Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.;

All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Therefore, the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds is necessary.
