Program Information

The Pacific Northwest Preservation Field School (FS) is a hands-on academic program sponsored by the University of Oregon, the National Park Service, and regional governmental agencies from Oregon, Washington State, and Idaho. The program takes place in the late summer and is a requirement of the Historic Preservation master’s program. The school draws a diverse crowd of students, practicing cultural resource professionals, historic preservation enthusiasts, and national and state park employees. Skilled preservationists and cultural resource professionals guide students in technical preservation skills, ethics, philosophy, and best practice through hands-on work. Through course work, participants contribute to the preservation of unique sites throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Purpose of position

To assist the FS director in day-to-day tasks during the 2024 preservation field school at Deception Pass State Park in Washington

Position Specifics

Attend FS and lead meal preparation and cooking of breakfast and dinner for 15-20 people for six nights and five days a week for the duration of the three-week Field School session. Assist with food purchasing and other tasks as necessary. Meal preparation will take place in a fully appointed kitchen, including an electric four-burner stove and oven, refrigerator, chest freezer, microwave, coffeemaker, dishwasher, and toaster, as well as tools and utensils. Weeks two and three will have use of a commercial kitchen, including a convection oven, cooking range, dishwasher, six-foot griddle, 60-cup urn, floor mixer, hot serve deck, refrigeration, scullery Area, small appliances, ice-water dispenser, and steam kettles. Must have a valid driver’s license and become certified to drive UO/OSU Motor Pool vehicles. Lodging provided.


Compensation

Up to $1000 per week, based on experience (40-48 hours per week).
