Job Title: K-5 ELA Instructional Coach

Location: District



Class Title: WTA - 1.0 FTE

Effective Date: 08/08/24



Salary Range: $49,450.80- $90,675.86

Hours per week: Full Time


Term: 2024-2025 School Year (one year only-Grant funded)


Purpose:
The Instructional Coach, having both content and instructional expertise, will work as a colleague with K-5 classroom teachers to support student learning and teacher practice. The Instructional Coach will focus on individual and group professional learning that will expand and refine the understanding about researched-based effective instruction for teachers. In order to meet this purpose, the Instructional Coach will provide personalized, 1:1 support based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers. The priority grade levels will be Grade 2 and Grade 3.

Assistant Superintendent and ELA District Curriculum Coordinator


General Responsibilities:

  • Participate fully in professional development for coaches, including peer observations, professional research and reading, and inquiry sessions.
  • Provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed.
  • Provide support in analyzing student assessment data.
  • Assist teachers with designing instructional decisions based on assessment data when requested.
  • Assist teachers with specific classroom activities when requested.
  • Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies.
  • Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with the curriculum.
  • Provide teachers resources related to instruction and curriculum.
  • Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues.
  • Model effective, differentiated instruction when requested.
  • Provide encouragement and emotional support to teachers.
  • Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers.
  • Assist teachers in aligning their teaching with appropriate standards, curriculum and assessments.
  • Encourage ongoing professional growth for all teachers.
  • Manage time and schedule flexibility to maximize teacher schedules and learning.
  • Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals.
  • Assist with implementation of district curriculum, instruction and assessments.
  • Provide coaching cycle data, monthly time and effort calendar, and other pertinent progress monitoring to ELA District Curriculum Coordinator
  • Possess an understanding of when to contact administrators regarding issues of safety/ethics involving students in the classroom observed.
  • Work collaboratively and collegially with other instructional coaches, curriculum specialists and district reading specialists.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience
  • Current Rhode Island Teaching License
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Rhode Island ELA content standards
  • Knowledge of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy
  • Experience in researched-based instructional practices
  • Previous coaching or teacher leadership experience
  • Deep knowledge of and experience in assessment driven instruction (teaching/learning process)
  • Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for building an environment with a common instructional focus, promoting initiatives, and conveying expectations
  • Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated strength in organization, communication skills and efficiency in meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team
  • Demonstrated interest and engagement in current educational trends, professional learning and reflection


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in a regular education setting in either Grade 2 or 3
  • Special education experience and/or certification
  • Knowledge and experience with EL Education ELA Curriculum
  • Proficiency in the Science of Reading
  • Master’s Degree and/or advanced coursework in Education, Literacy, or Leadership
