Position Overview:
We're looking for an experienced HECM (Reverse) Underwriter to join our team! In this role, you'll be responsible for underwriting residential loans to ensure they meet our company's standards, investor requirements, and legal regulations. You'll carefully review loan documentation to confirm accuracy and completeness, and collaborate with Loan Originators, Branch Managers, and Processors to gather all necessary documents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review Applications: Follow established guidelines to assess loan applications and documentation, ensuring they meet HECM standards and our internal policies.
- Timely Decision Making: Maintain prompt turnaround times for initial decisions and condition reviews, in line with department expectations.
- Collaborate: Work closely with Quality Control, Compliance, and Funding teams to resolve issues, evaluate risks, and address compliance concerns.
- Knowledge Building: Stay up-to-date with HECM product guidelines and risk assessment tools to make informed underwriting decisions.
- Loan Reworking: Adjust loans to new terms as needed, identifying additional conditions to support viable credit decisions.
- Document Evaluation: Review and analyze borrower profiles, including income documentation, tax returns, credit reports, appraisals, and more to ensure all necessary information is collected for final loan decisions.
- Manual Underwriting: Apply your expertise in manual underwriting policies and procedures.
- Market Awareness: Keep informed about secondary market activity and industry practices that affect underwriting quality and origination.
- Effective Communication: Maintain strong relationships with loan originators, management, and processors.
- Technical Skills: Demonstrate proficiency in MS Office products.
Experience and Skills Required:
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in Residential Loan underwriting.
- Certifications: DE certification and recent FHA underwriting experience preferred.
- Knowledge: Solid understanding of FHA/HECM policies, fraud detection tools, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Relationship Management: Proven ability to manage relationships with internal and external partners.
- Processing Experience: Prior mortgage processing experience is a plus.
- Analytical Skills: Experience with repurchase response, rebuttal reviews, and the ability to report, analyze, and interpret data.
